  • What arts events are happening in Eugene this week? See five fun, quirky things to do.

In the mood to dance? Listen to a live band? Learn to garden? All these events and more are coming to Eugene-Springfield this week, with a Shrek-themed rave (yes, the grumpy green ogre) coming to WOW Hall, The Faux Paux coming to Tsunami books, and a gardening workshop with Once Again Gardens coming to Hodgepodge.

In addition, cult classics abound. See “Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie” on screen at Art House and “The Labyrinth, An Aerial Adventure” at The Hult Center with Revelers Aerial Works. This wide array of adventurous and fun events will surely give you something to do over the long holiday weekend.

See ‘Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie’ at Art House

Another animated cult classic is coming to the screen at Art House, and this time, it’s transporting movie-goers to space. “Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie” opened on May 16, but it’s not too late to catch the film. Follow space pirate Cobra on a rescue mission against a strange being called Crystal Bowie, and into a struggle over the fate of a mysterious wandering planet during the film,

“Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie” is showing on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. and May 21 at 2:45 p.m. at Art House, 492 E. 13th Ave. For tickets and more information, visit the Art House website at eugenearthouse.com.

Shrek Rave at WOW Hall

If the folks at the Shrek Rave are to be believed, cool is dead and having fun is in. What more reason do you need to come down to an all-ages dance party with your favorite fairytale creatures? Costumes are encouraged, and in a movie like “Shrek,” there are so many fun options to choose from.

A night of DJs, dancing and dragons awaits on May 22 at WOW Hall. Doors open and the music starts at 9 p.m., and the party vibes stay going until 1 a.m. For more information, visit the WOW Hall website at wowhall.org.

The Faux Paws at Tsunami Books

Folk and Americana quartet The Faux Paux are taking to the stage at Tsunami Books on May 24. This is the band’s first time at Tsunami, but as a Sisters Folk Festival favorite, they are sure to be well received. The band recently released a new album called “No Bad Ideas.” With roots in contra dance and Cajun bands, their sound is a hybrid of folk and fun that energizes audiences.

Hear their twangy melodies and heavenly harmonies at 2585 Willamette St. in Eugene on May 24 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at tsunamibooks.org.

Gardening Workshop at Hodgepodge

Looking to polish your green thumb this summer? Once Again Gardens is hosting a Container Gardening workshop at Hodgepodge, where curious folks can learn all about growing herbs in a container. Set yourself up for success by avoiding some classic mistakes that beginner gardeners make, with an emphasis on healthy roots, appropriate spacing, and long-term care.

Customers will leave with a container of summer herbs, care guidance for their specific plants, and confidence in setting up future containers of herbs. Happening at 11 a.m. May 23.For more information and tickets, check out the Once Again Gardens website at onceagaingardens.com. Hodgepodge is located at 158 E. 14th Ave.
