Eva Longoria teases her upcoming female-led comedy The Fifth Wheel

Eva Longoria is in her comedy era!
The Desperate Housewives star, 51, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her “dream job” directing her upcoming female comedy The Fifth Wheel, starring her longtime friend Kim Kardashian.
“It’s so much fun,” Longoria shares. “We just wrapped after three months of filming. We ended in Vegas. It was a dream job.”
“First of all, it’s a big, unapologetically R-rated female comedy that feels modern and contemporary,” she adds.
The Fifth Wheel stars Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster and Brenda Song as high school best friends who “attempt to reconnect during a weekend jaunt to Vegas,” according to an official logline.
“When a hot outsider (Kardashian) crashes the weekend, they’re forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions, and unraveling friendships,” the synopsis continued.
Will Ferrell, Jack Whitehall, Casey Wilson and Scott MacArthur round out the cast. Kardashian, 45, and Ferrell, 58, will also serve as the movie’s producers.

“Kim is the anchor of the movie,” Longoria says. “We just had a blast. Kim and I have been friends for 25 years, and when I got the job, she said, ‘Oh, thank God Eva knows I’m funny.’ ”
“And she is — she’s so funny,” the multi-hyphenate continues. “I cannot wait for the world to see how great she is in this movie and hopefully spark more female comedies.”
For Longoria, every day on set with the The Fifth Wheel cast was filled with laughter.
“Just sitting and kiki-ing with Kim and everyone,” Longoria shares of her favorite moments on set. “Nikki is so profound. She’s incredibly insightful and wise beyond her years. I loved just sitting and talking with them. Fortune is just a light — such a joy to be around. Every day, we were laughing nonstop.”

“It was also really special because we had female writers, producers, cast and a female director,” she adds. “That’s not common, and you could feel it. The set felt different because of it.”
The Fifth Wheel is Longoria’s second directorial project, following her 2023 movie Flamin’ Hot, which chronicles the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Earlier this month, Kardashian and Ferrell were spotted on the Netflix comedy’s set. The reality star was transformed into a Las Vegas showgirl, dressed in a bejeweled body suit and a feather headpiece, while Ferrell sported a long blonde wig and a beard.
A release date for The Fifth Wheel has not yet been announced.
