School will be back in session for Prime Video’s Maxton Hall – The World Between Us in November when Season 2 arrives on the streamer.

Directed by Martin Schreier, Season 2 is executive produced by Markus Brunnemann and Ceylan Yildirim, who serves as head writer on the series. Juliana Lima Dehne and Marlene Melchior form the writers’ room alongside Yildirim. Valentin Debler will return as a producer on the second season. The series is supported by the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF).

What happened in Season 1 of Maxton Hall?

Season 1 of Maxton Hall watched Damian Hardung’s wealthy James Beaufort and scholarship student Ruby Bell (Herbig-Matten) clash initially. When Ruby learned that James’ twin sister was having an affair with a teacher, James tried to pay her to not tell anyone, but Ruby asserted that she had no plans to share the scandalous secret.

Suspicious of Ruby, James continues to stoke their shared animosity, but once the pair spend time together, get to know each other and admit their feelings for one another, they get together romantically. Two pivotal moments that turn the tide include an outing to one of James’ family’s fashion archives in London to help Ruby plan a gala and a heroic rescue of Ruby by James when she is thrown in a pool. Ruby fears water because a boating accident left her father paralyzed.

James’ father proves a major obstacle for their relationship multiple times in Season 1, and he threatens James that he will ruin Ruby’s life if James doesn’t end things with her. This brings James to pull away from Ruby very suddenly. Season 1 ended differently from Kasten’s Save Me novel, with James finding out his mother died from a stroke. This reveal comes as a result of James canceling his remaining Oxford interviews and preparing to tell his parents what he really wants to do with his life. It turned out that his father hadn’t immediately told James about his mother’s death. This sequence of events contrasts with the hope that Ruby experiences at the end of Season 1.

It was also revealed at the end of Season 1 that James’ sister Lydia was pregnant with Professor Sutton’s (Eidin Jalali) baby.
