A US commentator has laid into Prince Harry after the royal was denied accommodation by Buckingham Palace during his five-day visit to the United Kingdom.
The Duke of Sussex touched down in the UK on Monday afternoon (UK time) ahead of his plans in London and Birmingham for the One Year To Go Invictus Games events.
However, confusion surrounded the royal’s accommodation plans after a spokesperson for the 41-year-old announced he had accepted his father’s offer to stay at the royal residence, only for the Palace to release its own statement moments later declaring that the invitation had been withdrawn.
Now, an American political commentator, who regularly weighs in on topics regarding the British royal family, has taken to X – formerly Twitter – to give his two cents on Harry’s accommodation debacle, dubbing him “a spoilt brat”.
“Good! Enough!” Link Lauren said of the Palace’s decision to rescind their invitation to the prince.
“Harry is a spoilt brat who’s done nothing but try to destroy the Royal Family for six years running,” he added.
The Spot On with Link Lauren host then suggested the Duke of Sussex should book a room at a budget-friendly hotel chain if he needs a place to stay during his UK trip.
“There’s a Holiday Inn in London. He should book a room fast. High season!”
This week, an official statement revealed that King Charles’ son would not be staying at Buckingham Palace, despite Harry’s spokesperson, Liam Maguire, announcing just hours earlier that he had accepted his father’s invitation.
Well-placed sources claim that Harry did not reply to the Palace’s offer before the deadline, and he was told on Saturday that logistics would not allow him to stay there.
According to Buckingham Palace, Harry’s representatives formally declined the invitation on Saturday, but pulled a one-eighty on their decision later that day and accepted.
BBC additionally reported that the Palace had concerns about the Duke of Sussex staying at a royal residence around the same time as the result of his court case against Associated Newspapers, which was published on Tuesday.
Maguire responded to the claims, saying it was “disappointing” that the Palace had withdrawn the offer “at the last moment”.
“I am aware of multiple briefings from Buckingham Palace last week suggesting that the Duke had not accepted the offer of accommodation at a Royal Residence,” he said.
“Following RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family, the Duke spent last week making alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend.
“It is therefore disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn, with Tuesday’s judgment in the Associated Newspapers Limited case cited as the reason.
“Buckingham Palace has, however, been aware of that judgment since last Thursday. It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment.”
