‘Extra’ Senior Producer Adam Weissler To Exit After 25 Years

Emmy-winning senior producer Adam Weissler is exiting Extra.

Weissler has been the show’s primary film, music, award show and talent booker for more than 25 years. His exit is part of a larger restructuring on the half-hour newsmagazine ahead of its 32nd season.

Weissler joined the Telepictures production in 2000 to re-establish relationships with the industry when Extra made the decision to move away from the tabloid format and return to a talent-friendly destination.

During his time at Extra, Weissler was the first to interview rising artists Katy Perry, Norah Jones, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith. He also secured exclusive interviews with Taylor Swift, Cher, Madonna and Clint Eastwood. He created candid moments with talent like car ride-alongs with Hugh Jackman and off-site tapings with Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as on-location nterviews with Chadwick Boseman and the cast of Black Panther.

Weissler also supervised and coordinated musical performances for the show with Swift, Lionel Richie, Nelly Furtado and more, both in-studio and on an outdoor set with a live audience. He added the role of music correspondent to his resume in 2011, and showcased up-and-coming musical artists like Dua Lipa, Gracie Abrams and Thomas Rhett.

Outside of Extra, Weissler is a recurring guest moderator at the Grammy museum and the National Association of Music Merchants.

“It is always a thrill both exposing audiences to new artists on the rise, as well as honoring legendary talent still creating and performing,” Weissler said. “I plan on continuing both endeavors in my next chapter, as well as exploring new projects I’m very excited about.”

Prior to Extra, Weissler was a producer at KCBS-TV, KNBC-TV and NBC Productions. He received a Golden Mike award for his Sinatra obituary while at KCBS. He received his Los Angeles Emmy for producing the CBS 2 Morning News.

Weissler also produced primetime movie specials on NBC like Macho Men of The Movies and Leading Ladies of the Movies.
