In the midst of intense grief, the family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the teenage girl who was found in the trunk of a Tesla that belonged to singer d4vd, is speaking out about the tragedy.
“As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week,” GoFundMe organizers Esmeralda Lozano and Gisel Vera wrote on a fundraising page that was created on Sept. 17. “She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.”
“Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss,” the statement continued. “They are seeking help to lay her body to rest. Any funds you are able to donate are greatly appreciated.”
The page has raised $12,989 of its $20,000 goal, as of Friday at the time of this posting. Hernandez’s funeral service will take place on Oct. 5.
The family’s first public comments come on the heels a day after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the body found in the car on Sept. 8 as 15-year-old Rivas Hernandez.
The date of death has been listed as Sept. 8 but the cause of death is “deferred,” due to her body being “severely decomposed” and the findings are pending additional investigation.
Per NBC News, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California confirmed in a statement that Rivas Hernandez was identified as the “juvenile who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore” last year and that the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide.
As previously reported, the remains belonging to the teenager were found wrapped inside a bag and stashed in the front trunk of an impounded Tesla registered to the popular internet singer after workers at Hollywood Tow in Los Angeles smelled a strong odor coming from a car in their lot.
