Ryan Seacrest announced the death of his father, Gary, from cancer at age 79 back in October 2025.
The Wheel of Fortune host got sentimental about his dad on his first Father’s Day without him on June 21.
The American Idol star has previously spoken out about how painful Gary’s death has been on him over the past few months.
Ryan Seacrest spent Father’s Day like millions of people around the world: missing Dad.
Back in October, the American Idol and Wheel of Fortune host revealed the death of his father, Gary. Gary passed away from cancer at age 79, and Ryan has since opened up about how life has been for him without having his father at his side.
On Father’s Day, Ryan decided to give his fans a more intimate look at his relationship with his dad with a beautiful Instagram post. As the TV personality shared photos of the duo with other members of the Seacrest family (which included his mom Connie, his sister, Meredith, and her family), he expressed just how much he missed his best friend.
“This was always one of dad’s favorites,” he emotionally wrote in the caption on June 21. “He didn’t sing much, but this one always did the trick. To my forever best friend, we miss you every day. Happy Father’s Day.”
As soon as fans saw Ryan’s heartfelt note about celebrating his first Father’s Day without his dad, people quickly rallied around with words of encouragement amid his grief.
“Awww…sweetest man ever!! Happy heavenly Father’s Day Gary 🫶🙌❤️ You are loved and missed 🙌,” one person wrote in the comments. “So sorry he is not here with you, Ryan but you know he is always watching over you. ♥️💔♥️,” another wrote. “Ryan, I’m so sorry your best friend is gone 💔 he’s 100% so proud of you and how you look over your family. God bless you all,” a different follower added.
Our hearts are with Ryan and everyone who is missing their dad this week.
