Whoopi Goldberg is celebrating her family expanding by one very special member.
On December 8, the actress opened up about a major change in her personal life while taping The View. Sharing the news with Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, Whoopi announced she became a great-grandmother for the second time.
As she proudly displayed photos of her great-granddaughter Lotus Dean (whose dad is Whoopi’s grandson Mason Dean), the Sister Act star also noted she has a unique moniker she’d love to be called as Lotus gets older.
“I’m going to start out today because I have some fun news from over the weekend,” she stated in a clip posted on Instagram. “My family welcomed Lotus Dean to the world. It’s a wonderful thing, and this is my second … I never thought I’d have two great-grandkids. And they call me Whoopi, because I’m not the grandma. I’m the great-grandma, just Whoop is OK.”
When fans learned that Whoopi welcomed a second great-grandchild into the world, it didn’t take long before they bombarded her with excitement.
“Congratulations to you and your family Whoopi! Welcome to the world Lotus! 🥰,” one person wrote in the comments. “Gorgeous with a great name! Congratulations!” another agreed. “God bless her ♥️ She is beautiful 💕,” a different follower added.
For those who don’t know, Whoopi has one child, a daughter named Alex that she welcomed at age 18. Alex later welcomed Mason, along with daughters Amarah and Jerzey, and Amarah gave birth to Whoopi’s first great-grandchild Charli Rose in 2014.
When speaking about being a great-grandmother at the same time as Charli’s birth, Whoopi explained how excited she was for seeing another generation of her family grow up.
“I was a grandmother kind of young,” she stated while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in July 2014. “Now I’m a great grandmother, and I was—I had just gotten into the groove of being a grandmother. It was all great. And then this girl came and said she and her man were having a baby, and I wanted to ring her neck.”
“I wasn’t your normal grandmother,” Whoopi added at the time. “I’m not going to be your normal great grandmother.”
