From the day she first graced our screens on Top Chef Season 5, Carla Hall has captured the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere. She’s quirky and down-to-earth, warm and cozy, and through her cuisine, you can tell she cut her teeth in the deep south country drawl of Nashville, Tennessee. Her personality is the direct antithesis of the hyperpolished, brigade-style systems and no-nonsense kitchen environment—but she seems to fit in with the typical ultra-competitive culinary crowd so effortlessly. She’s got grit and tenacity, but in an endearing Ms. Frizzle kind of way—you know?

In reality, she’s all heart and soul, and that’s what makes her one of the most exciting culinary personalities to watch. Whether she’s showing off her chops in a competition setting, mentoring The Worst Cooks in America, or hosting one of several shows, she always manages to capture our attention and keep us hungry for what else she’s cooking up next. As much as we love everything she’s doing now, though, we still haven’t gotten over ABC’s decision to cancel The Chew after seven seasons and probably never will.

For those of you unfamiliar, The Chew was an Emmy-winning daytime cooking talk show featuring hosts Carla Hall, Michael Symon, Clinton Kelly, and Mario Batali. After Batali was fired from the show in December 2017 due to allegations of sexual misconduct, the show’s viewership suffered, and the final episode aired just five months later in June 2018. But, despite the show being pulled from the air, fans have been begging for its return for years. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on whether the show will return in its original format, but according to Carla’s recent Instagram post, there may be hope for us yet.
Carla Hall Announces Revamped Version of ‘The Chew’
After years of waiting in limbo, Carla, Michael Symon, and Clinton Kelly announced that they are reviving The Chew entirely on their own in the form of a video podcast called Chewed Up. According to a video posted to the show’s social media page, the idea came about because the trio has a 15-year running group chat where they came up with the idea after realizing that everyone’s always talking about bringing the show back, but not doing anything about it.
Where to Watch ‘Chewed Up’
They’re going it on their own, and that means complete editorial and creative control over the direction of the show and where it goes from here. The new show is set to air Monday, September 22, on YouTube and will also be available to stream wherever you listen to your podcasts. So far, the content of the show is under wraps, but judging by the sneak peeks on Instagram, it’s shaping up to be even better than the original. While it may not be exactly the original show, fans couldn’t contain their excitement, with several saying they “cannot wait!!” “So excited, finally!!! I was so mad when they went off air 7 years ago,” admitted one fan.
Several others expressed similar sentiments, with quite a few divulging that they still have record tapes of the original show on their DVR. Talk about a dedicated fan base. We’ll definitely be tuning in on Monday to catch up with Carla, Michael, and Clinton, and can’t wait to see what’s next for the trio. And if you just can’t get enough Carla Hall, you can check her out at the upcoming Cayman Cookout at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman and see what all the hype is about.
