Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their plans to “work to become financially independent” on January 8, 2020, with the couple having now been living in the US for nearly six years. The couple currently reside in a gated community in Monetcito with their children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.
In their statement, which was shared to their then-joint Instagram account, Meghan and Harry revealed that they planned to continue to “fully support” the Queen Elizabeth II, whilst highlighting that they were “stepping down as working members of the Royal Family”.
In a poll conducted by the Daily Express, which ran between 5.18am on January 8 and 4.35pm on January 9, fans were asked if Meghan and Harry made the right decision when they stepped down as senior working royals.
Of the 2,117 people who voted in the poll, 1,102 people shared that they felt Meghan and Harry had made the right decision.
Whilst 913 people felt they had made the wrong decision, an additional 102 people voted that they weren’t sure if it was the right or wrong move for the couple.
Taking to the comment section, one fan comment: “Their leaving was the best thing under the circumstances…”
Clearly in support of the Sussexes, another added: “Yes, it was best that they pursued their journey to financial independence.
“Toxic people cause harm to everyone around them. They are solely responsible for their and their children’s future. Hope they are happy with their choice.”
A third added that the decision wasn’t the wrong move but what occured after was, adding: “Yes it was OK if that was what they wanted, but the wrong part was the lies, books and telling tales of their family…”
In agreement, another added: “Of course it was good that they “stepped down”. It was the right thing for that pair to do.
“What was not good is that they have wasted their lives ever since – dwelling on their past in the RF. They have proved that neither of them have the intelligence or talent to start careers of their own.”
