In an exciting turn of events, Zootopia 2 is surpassing some of the most popular and anticipated films of the year, such as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Avatar: Fire and Ash, leading the pre-sales frenzy in the Chinese market.
As a matter of fact, the film is eyeing close to $200 million in its opening weekend if the traction continues.
Not just overseas, Zootopia 2 is set to even captivate the domestic audience as well. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, highlighting impressive pre-sales, Walt Disney’s buddy cop animation is likely to rake in at least $125 million in its five-day opening week at the Thanksgiving box office.
Directed by Jared Bush and Bryon Howard, Zootopia brings back brave rabbit cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and her clever fox friend, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), to join forces to crack another case of their career.
While it may seem like just another film in the domestic market, in the Chinese market, it is shaping up to be a significant test for Hollywood. Disney CEO Bob Iger, who has been laying the groundwork for the film for some time now, even flew down to Shanghai to kickstart the premiere. He appeared alongside producer Yvett Merino and Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, the voice of the new character, Gary.
Starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, Shakira, Idris Elba, and more, the film hits theaters on November 26.
