As someone who’s been jaded by superhero fatigue in recent years, the summer of 2025 offered two antidotes I’m looking forward to bringing home. This week, James Gunn’s Superman hits HBO Max, reuniting me with one half of that equation. But as you can tell by the headline, Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is also a picture I dig quite well.
Just as my hype surrounding that movie had died down, Marvel found a way to stoke it back to the levels I was at after seeing director Matt Shakman’s movie for the first time. Per today’s big announcement, you too can revisit (or introduce yourself to) First Steps through digital rental or purchase, starting September 23rd.
As for us physical media devotees, we’ll have to wait until October 14th for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD copies to hit shelves. If you ask me, that’s where the real action is, as only certain versions of The Fantastic Four’s Marvel Cinematic Universe origin story will include this compliment of bonus features on deck:
The 4K UHD digital and Blu-ray releases feature hours of exclusive bonus content, including deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and filmmaker commentary by director Matt Shakman and production designer Kasra Farahani.
Fellow children of Tomorrowland will be pleased to know that one of the featurettes happens to be titled, “Fantastic Futurism,” which delves into the rich visual world built into this Phase 6 kickoff film. And if you look at the cover art for all of the formats on display, that love is still present through each variant.
However, there’s one edition I’m eager to get my hands on, and it’s an Amazon Exclusive. Not only does that version of The Fantastic Four: First Steps have a gorgeous Steelbook for its 4K UHD/Blu-ray combo pack, it also has a fridge magnet and some other goodies in store. The icing on this super heroic cake, for me at least, has to be how a copy of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ prequel comic is part of this fully loaded offer. I’ve been trying to get my hands on that book for months, and now my local comic shops won’t have to endure my constant calls. Also, my boy H.E.R.B.I.E. is on the disc art! That’s when you know you’ve made it as an adorable side character who can steal a heart and cook Sunday Dinner.
All kidding aside, it’s beautiful to see one of the most entertaining movies of 2025 get the royal treatment for home entertainment. So if you’re looking forward to fighting crime with the First Family of Superheroes, then keep your eyes open for when The Fantastic Four: First Steps pre-orders open up! There’s still no official word on when to expect the film on Disney+, so you streamers out there will have to sit tight for now.
