Over the last several years, horror has arguably been going through a renaissance, with several movies that seem destined to become iconic being released. In 2025, a major chapter in a wildly popular horror franchise was released and became a hit. Now, scary movie fans can rejoice as the premiere date for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on Netflix has finally been confirmed, and it is coming soon.
When ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Will Arrive on Netflix
On July 6, 2026, the X account for the website What’s on Netflix announced that a highly successful movie will debut on the streaming giant in less than a month. According to that post, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in America on August 3, 2026. The movie stars Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Mckenna Grace, and most importantly, the franchise’s trademark animatronic characters.
In addition to posting on X, What’s on Netflix also published an article on the news that revealed several interesting details of the upcoming premiere. It noted that the horror movie is coming to Netflix as part of an ongoing deal that was struck between Netflix and Universal Pictures. Unfortunately, that report revealed a disappointing detail for anyone who enjoys watching horror on Netflix: Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will only be available on the streaming service for just 10 months.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Was a Major Success
Since Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 premiered in theaters in December 2025, the horror sequel has become an undeniable hit. The most obvious way that the film succeeded was financially, since it made more than four times its budget in theaters alone. According to IMDb, it cost an estimated $51 million to produce and brought in more than $238.5 million at the worldwide box office. That alone was more than enough to make the film a hit, and that doesn’t factor in any other revenue streams, including home media, merchandising, and streaming rights.
The one way in which Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 flopped is with critics, as its paltry 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer shows. However, anyone who follows horror will recognize that scary movies that fans love often fail with critics. The film has a solid 82% Popcornmeter score based on more than 5,000 verified ratings from users. That arguably is the most important metric since most horror filmmakers would want their work to be embraced by fans over critics.
