TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBS12) — A legal ruling on Wednesday involving Live Nation is expected to change how Floridians see ticket prices for concerts, sporting events, and other live entertainment, requiring clearer disclosure of mandatory fees during the purchasing process.

The case focused on how ticket prices were presented to consumers, with state officials arguing that required service charges and fees were often not disclosed upfront, leaving buyers unaware of the true cost until late in checkout. The ruling requires Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, to follow Florida consumer protection laws by making those mandatory fees clear and transparent.

As part of the decision, Live Nation must certify that its ticketing practices comply with state law. Officials said the outcome reinforces Florida’s prohibition on deceptive or misleading trade practices and could influence how ticket pricing is displayed to customers statewide.

The decision comes amid ongoing national debate over ticket fees and pricing practices in the live entertainment industry, where consumers have long raised concerns about surprise charges and a lack of transparency. While the Florida case does not address market dominance or competition issues, it directly targets how prices are communicated to buyers.

On Thursday, Attorney General James Uthmeier said the ruling represents a step toward protecting consumers from misleading pricing practices. In a statement, Uthmeier said Floridians should be able to understand the full cost of a ticket before committing to a purchase, without having fees revealed at the last minute.

The Attorney General’s Office said it will continue monitoring ticket sellers and other large companies for compliance with Florida’s consumer protection laws, warning that additional enforcement actions could follow if violations continue.

The ruling takes effect immediately and applies to ticket sales involving Florida consumers.
