Following July single Today’s Song and last month’s live charity EP, Foo Fighters seem to be gearing up to release more new music.
The band have just unveiled an absolutely electrifying snippet of material, with the caption: “About to take flight…” As well as sounding killer, fans online are pondering if there’s also more tour dates to come – especially given Foos’ joke AI video in September in which Dave Grohl hinted, “It’s been a while but I’m happy to announce that Foo Fighters are coming back to bring you that 100 per cent real, raw, human element of rock’n’roll…”
Their last album, the 5/5-rated But Here We Are, dropped in 2023. In the Kerrang! review, we said that it “prises beauty from unimaginable suffering” following the loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins and Dave’s mother Virginia: “Make no mistake, Foo Fighters have delivered a masterpiece – one they never would have wanted to have to record, but a masterpiece nonetheless.”
Upon this summer’s release of Today’s Song, Foos got reflective and posted in a statement, “Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”
They also thanked Taylor Hawkins as well as their previous drummers: “It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.
“And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivalled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
