WORCESTER — A child day care center could open in a Southbridge Street building best known as home to strip clubs.
A sign with the name Club Tiger Child Care, topped by a cartoonish tiger, hangs from a chain link fence surrounding 241 Southbridge St., the former location of entertainment venues, including Riviera Show Club and Platinum Premier Gentlemen’s Club.
The address was once home to Eastern Chemical Specialties. In the early 1980s, after the business went bankrupt, the parcel was the site of an extensive environmental cleanup effort.
Club Tiger Child Care has locations in Springfield and Chicopee.
The .33-acre parcel was purchased for $2.7 million on June 3 by Springfield-based JoJo Investment, managed by Changin Lee and Suhyun Lee, property records show.
The deal included a 41,800-square-foot parking lot on nearby Jackson Street.
The properties were bought from Newton-based Bridgesouth Real Estate Development, managed by Christopher Stephans, property records show.
The location at 241 Southbridge St. often had its share of troubles with arrests and violence marring its former iterations as entertainment venues.
