Gerry Turner will not be holding back in his upcoming memoir, The Golden Years.
In an interview with Us Weekly published Monday, October 13, the former Golden Bachelor star, 74, told the outlet he would be candidly sharing his side of the story regarding his divorce from his wife, Theresa Nist, in his book.
“I’m not worried; I think she [Nist] should be worried,” he warned.
Turner and Nist, 72, famously fell in love during the hit dating show in 2023 and tied the knot in a live ABC televised special titled The Golden Wedding in January 2024. However, in April 2024, the couple appeared on Good Morning America and announced they were getting divorced.
The TV personality told Us Weekly that part of his reasoning for writing this book was because “there were some perceptions that I wanted to put on the right track.”
“The question was constantly, ‘Why are they getting divorced so quickly?’ And I was, I believe, made out to be a villain,” he remarked.
“We were strongly advised not to make any independent statements [after GMA]. Literally 48 hours later, she was making a statement to social media,” Turner explained. “And I go, ‘No, that was not what we agreed to do. That was not our plan.’”
Turner also told Us Weekly that he felt Nist wasn’t forthcoming about her career ambitions during their relationship.
“On the show, I asked Theresa if she was ready to quit her job. She said, ‘When I meet the right guy, I’m ready to end my career,’” he claimed. “What I heard was, ‘There is a woman who’s going to be willing to travel, to have some adventure to do, some things that I consider and that we should consider fun.’”
“And then after the show, she always went back to, ‘Well, I really want to keep working,’” Turner shared. “And that just pretty much makes it an impossible situation.”
However, looking back, Turner did admit he made his own mistakes in the relationship.
“I was a bit naive; I was a bad listener,” he confessed. “I didn’t probe well enough, and that’s both for my sake and for Theresa’s. Had I been better at some of those areas, maybe there would have been a different end.”
The Golden Years hits shelves Tuesday, November 4.
