In a way, Misner’s instant success for the Royals shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that’s watched him develop at every level of the sport.
He dominated at Poplar Bluff High School, slamming eight home runs and 35 RBI as a senior, totaling 25 extra base hits in a phenomenal senior season that culminated in being named SEMO Conference Player of the Year. Even more impressive, Misner stole 29 bases on the season.
Misner also starred on the mound for the Mules, as he struck out 48 batters in 32 innings of work, resulting in being selected out of high school by the Royals in the 2016 first year draft.
Despite his plethora of baseball success at the high school level, Misner spurned the Royals at the time to embark upon a career at the University of Missouri. He starred for the Tigers right away, earning Freshman All-American honors and eventually emerging as one of the top prospects in America heading into the 2019 MLB Draft.
After being drafted in the first round by the Miami Marlins, Misner worked his way through the minor leagues before being acquired by the Rays. He earned a brief opportunity in 2024 before getting 191 bats as a rookie in 2025, which included a game-winning home run against the Colorado Rockies during that timespan on Opening Day. With that accomplishment, Misner became the first player in MLB history to have his first career home run to win a contest via walk-off fashion on the first day of a season.
With his impressive accolades at the high school and collegiate level, and a pretty good minor league career, Misner’s hoping that his first-game success will culminate in him staying in the major leagues, this time for good.
