Partynextdoor and Deadmau5 are the latest artists to announce events in popular games: Fortnite and Rocket League (both owned by Epic Games) respectively.
Partynextdoor has an “immersive concert event” developed by Sony Music’s in-house Immersive Music Studios team, taking place on his own island within Fortnite’s Creative mode.
It requires fans to travel from the CN Tower in Toronto to a concert on South Beach via private jet, before hotfooting it to an afterparty in Miami.
Scavenger hunts, mini-games and parkour quests are included, as well as a performance by Partynextdoor in avatar form. His single ‘Break From Toronto’ will also be made available as a ‘Jam Track’ within Fortnite as part of the promo.
As for Deadmau5 – an artist who’s been engaged with gaming and the metaverse for a long time now – he’s the headliner for the 10th birthday party for Rocket League, the cars-play-football title that Epic Games acquired in 2019.
From tomorrow (5 August) players will be able to snag branded tunes, boosts and decals, as well as buy other items from the in-game shop. There will also be challenges based around Deadmau5 and the game’s 10th anniversary.
As ever, it’s interesting to gauge the value of the premium virtual items being launched as part of this kind of promo.
A McLaren 570S + Deadmau5 Bundle is being sold for 2,500 credits. In the US, 3,000 Rocket League credits cost $24.99, which gives you a sense of the real-world value here (just under 21 dollars).
Individual Deadmau5 tracks are being sold as in-game anthems too: they cost 300 credits individually, or there’s a bundle for 900 credits.
