Fox News host Jesse Watters has been slammed for trying to be the “arbiter” of masculinity, after his on-air rant about women – and men – filming themselves while at the gym.
Criticizing Democrat Eric Swalwell on a segment of Fox News’ The Five, Watters denounced men filming themselves in the gym as “try hards”.
In the show, Watters said, “You know who doesn’t film themselves at the gym? Men. Women film themselves working out. That’s who does it.”
“The only people who do this are professional athletes or fitness influencers. Especially married men, if you’re a married guy and you’re posting bench press videos – oh god. Is that thirsty? He is such a try hard. And every ‘realy guy’ knows a try hard and he’s one.”
A clip from the program has since been shared on X and viewed more than 84,000 times, with 180 comments. Many of these are people point-blank disagreeing with Watters, who was also criticized for his rules on masculinity.
One person shared, “Why does this man think HIS rules for everyone need to be verbalized??” Others noted that, within the last week, Fox News shared a clip of Secretary of Health and Human Resources Robert F. Kennedy JR. and Secretary of defense Pete Hegseth doing a round of pull-ups and push-ups in a testosterone-filled gym.
One person said, “Didn’t Hegseth, RFK and other MAGA weirdos, film themselves helping each other do pull-ups, a couple of days ago?”
Another commenter said that Watter’s proportions were off, saying that “over 90 percent” of people filming inside a gym are male. Someone else added, “No-lots of weirdos go to the gym to film themselves. It’s annoying”
“I was literally at the gym last week and a dude was filming himself deadlifting,” another chimed in.

“If I had a dollar for everytime @JesseBWatters dumba** tried to be the arbiter of what a man is, I could f—— retire,” yet another irate X user said.
It is not the first time Watters has shared his instructions for being a man. Earlier this month, he was branded a “parody” for sharing a new “rule” he thinks men should follow that, according to him, is inspired by President Donald Trump.
Watters shared a clip of Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey losing his cool and accusing some of his colleagues of being “complicit” in the Trump admin agenda.
He went on to share another “rule” he believes “real” men should follow, saying, “Rules for men: control your emotions.”
He added, “You never see Trump lose his cool – even when they arrested him and put him on trial.”
Trump actually did lose his cool included when he had a meltdown in the Oval Office against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier this year, and also when he criticized Israel and Iran for not knowing “what the f— they’re doing.”
The President has also shared several rants on social media, including a post against Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, in which he wrote, “Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell has done it again!!! He is TOO LATE, and actually, TOO ANGRY, TOO STUPID, & TOO POLITICAL, to have the job of Fed Chair.”
