Gamecocks Set Nine Pool Records vs. Queens, Sweep Royals – University of South Carolina Athletics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – South Carolina swimming broke nine pool records in its win over Queens on Saturday afternoon at the Levine Aquatic Center. The 156-104 win was the men’s first of the season, while the women kept their win streak rolling, defeating the Royals 181-78.

WOMEN

• The women’s relay team of Amy Riordan, Alexis Dalton, Taylor Grimley and Sofia Luper started the meet off with a pool record in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:37.84. They picked up the event win as well.
• Emma Reiser kept the records rolling in the 1000 freestyle, clocking a 9:47.73 for the event win and pool record. Nora Fluck took second with a 9:51.90.
• Ellery Ottem (1:47.70) and Jordan Agliano (1:48.99) grabbed second and third, respectively, in the 200 freestyle.
• Riordan picked up her first win of the day in the 100 backstroke, notching a 52.69, well under the previous pool record. Her initial relay split in the 400 medley relay set the official record at 52.58.
• Dylan Scholes and Katie Buehler completed the 1-2-3 sweep in the event with 53.10 and 54.60, respectively.
• Dalton took the win in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.79.
• The Gamecocks picked up another race sweep in the 200 butterfly with Breckin Gormley, Tori Abruzzo (2:00.83) and Delaney Franklin (2:01.23). Gormley took the event win in 1:58.51, setting her first pool record of the day.
• Kara West punched in an event win with a 23.10 in the 50 freestyle, with Grimley right behind her with a time of 23.37.
• Scholes took the title in the 100 freestyle in a time of 49.65.
• Agliano and Buehler went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.68 and 1:58.06.
• Franklin headlined the 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:12.86 to win the event. Molly Yacoviello (2:12.50) and Caroline Kudela (2:15.13) touched behind her for the sweep.
• Gormley went two for two on the day, picking up her second win and second pool record in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:47.03.
• Grimley grabbed the sixth and final pool record for the girls in the 100 butterfly in a time of 52.93.
• Franklin took her second event win in the 200 IM in a time of 2:00.60
• The women rounded out the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Scholes, Grimley, Chan and Riordan recorded a time of 1:31.40.

MEN

• The men kicked off the meet with a 400 medley relay pool record with the team of Ryan Hufford, Einar Agustsson, Eldor Usmonov and Bexon Harrison finishing in 3:11.45.
• Connor Fry notched another men’s pool record with a 1000 freestyle event win, recording a time of 9:03.45. Raymond Prosinski (9:19.02) and Ryan Turner (9:22.48) touched second and third, respectively, for the sweep.
• Pierre Largeron grabbed his first event win in the 200 freestyle, clocking a 1:36.48. Harrison (1:37.73) and Kyle Korvick (1:39.37) rounded out another event sweep for the men.
• Hufford took the win in the 100 backstroke with a 47.67.
• Agustsson grabbed the 100 breaststroke title with a 53.28 for his first win of the day.
• Gage Hulbert touched in 1:46.86 for a win in the 200 butterfly.
• Hufford and Harrison went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle in times of 44.30 and 44.41.
• Merlin Ficher notched the men’s third pool record of the day in the 200 backstroke with a 1:44.63. Largeron finished behind him for second in a 1:46.96.
• Agustsson completed the sweep of the breaststroke events with a win in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a 1:57.83.
• Largeron took his second win of the day in the 500 freestyle with a 4:26.75.
• Usmonov finished first for the Gamecocks in the 100 butterfly in 47.92.
• Prosinski rounded out the day for the men with a win in the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:50.93.
