COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Columbia’s first open-air food hall, Gather COLA, will celebrate its grand opening in the BullStreet District at 10 a.m. Friday.
The event will feature live music, 10 restaurants, three retail shops, two bars and a Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m.
Gather COLA is part of a major transformation of the BullStreet District, highlighted by the recent announcement of a Publix grocery store.

Among the restaurants is Big Easy Seafood, whose staff recently shared crawfish mac and cheese with WACH FOX.
I got an email from Gather, they were showing the construction, it looked like a scam at first not even going to lie,” said owner, Cedric Cole.
After a successful tasting, Cole signed a five-year lease. “We’ll have more people, more people can try the food, and it will be consistent every day,” he said.
Hughes Development Corporation aims to make BullStreet a place where people can live, work, eat, shop and stay. The company is focused on attracting restaurants, retailers and businesses not yet in the Midlands.

“Publix is another example that growth here is not linear; every project builds on the next,” a company spokesperson said.
Groundbreaking for Publix is expected next summer, with the store opening shortly afterward.
