At the 2025 Social Good Summit in Manila, George and Amal Clooney stepped up to the stage for a moving call for freedom of press—one of the core issues they have focused on with their Clooney Foundation for Justice. The speaker series, headlined by the power couple and hosted by the Philippines’ leading digital media company Rappler, brought together political figures, investigative journalists, authors, and film directors alike for meaningful conversations on independent journalism, free speech, and the legal systems in place in the country. But one of the sweetest moments of the event came after George and Amal were asked about what they have learned from one another.
“I met and married the smartest, most beautiful, but also the most dedicated human being I’ve ever met. She makes every room a little smarter and a little better,” the award-winning actor shared. “What have I learned from her? I’ve learned about integrity; I’ve learned about compassion; I’ve learned about all of those elements that make us better as humans.”
“I’ve learned what courage looks like, and eloquence and humor,” Amal responded. “I’ve seen what an amazing father looks like, and many, many things.” For the occasion, the international human rights lawyer was dressed in red, wearing a sleeveless knit top and long matching pencil skirt.
“George is the best communicator I know, and if he’s standing up to make a speech he can make you laugh and he can make you cry and he can also convince,” she continued. “And in that sense, it’s the same job that we’re both trying to do, which is advocacy for change and hopefully moving the needle in the right direction whenever we can.”
