King Charles III is set to celebrate his birthday with a heartfelt surprise planned by his grandchildren, according to a former royal butler. The King, who turns 77 today, celebrated his official birthday in June with the Trooping the Colour parade and the traditional RAF flypast.
Ex-royal butler Grant Harrold has revealed that the three children of the Prince William and Princess Kate – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – are likely to present their grandfather with a “special present” and handmade birthday cards.
He stated: “Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will definitely have a special present for their Grandpa. I think they might make him homemade cards as well, which all grandparents love to receive.
“Kate and William enjoy doing arts and crafts with the children, so I anticipate they will create something extra special. We’ve seen previous examples of them making Mother’s Day cards for Kate, so I believe homemade cards are now a significant part of royal birthdays,” reports the Mirror.
In 2023, King Charles also received a “meaningful” birthday gift from his younger grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who reside in California with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
As reported by The Telegraph, Archie and Lilibet recorded a special video message singing “Happy Birthday” to their grandfather for his 75th birthday.
King Charles has a history of both giving and receiving thoughtful birthday presents with his grandchildren. For Prince George’s first birthday, the monarch gifted him an extraordinary £18,000 Wendy house.
The elaborate playhouse was installed in the grounds of Charles’s Highgrove estate, where it remains today for the young prince to enjoy during visits.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have both spoken openly about their passion for arts and crafts activities with their children. While visiting the National Federation of Women’s Institutes in London last September, the royal couple chatted with WI members who enquired about their youngsters.
Kate revealed that she and her three children—Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7)—spent their summer “crafting in every corner of the house.”
She also discussed her beekeeping interest and emphasised the value of “making and crafting” in building connections in their communities.
The Princess, who holds an undergraduate degree in art history, assisted George and Charlotte in creating homemade presents for their great-grandmother. William revealed on Radio 1 that George and Charlotte had crafted handmade gifts for the late Queen to mark her 91st birthday.
However, Kate was swift to interject, “Are you taking credit for the arts and crafts?” A rather embarrassed William responded: “This is putting the marriage on the line.”
