Although fans are happy to see the world of Game of Thrones expanding with new projects, they are eagerly waiting to hear a significant update on The Winds of Winter. There have been several reports about George RR Martin not being able to complete the final two books that would conclude his acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire series. On several occasions, the novelist has addressed the issue of missing deadlines, and once again, he has come forward and talked about the issue, assuring fans that it’s never intentional.

Speaking at a New York Comic Con panel (via Entertainment Weekly), Martin opened up about the upcoming projects based on his books and how he is involved with them. However, it would have been a travesty if the entire conversation had concluded without a mention of The Winds of Winter. Even though the author didn’t share any new updates on the book series, he didn’t shy away from addressing the supposed “controversy.” During his appearance, Martin noted that he doesn’t like missing deadlines, but that’s one of the things he has struggled with throughout his career.

“I know there’s all this controversy about ‘Winds of Winter’ and how late it is, but I’ve always had trouble with deadlines, and I don’t feel happy breaching contracts or missing a deadline or anything like that,” Martin said. Additionally, he talked about how fans react whenever he announces a new project, revealing that all these projects are based on the stories that he wrote in the initial part of his writing career.

Despite all that, Martin didn’t shy away from saying that he loves Winds of Winter and is still working on it. However, he made it clear that there are other projects he’s passionate about and wants to pursue as well. “Yes, I do love Winds of Winter. I’m still interested in it, I’m still working on it, but honestly, I love these other things, too,” he said.

Fans might be a little disappointed after hearing Martin’s comments, but Game of Thrones can definitely look forward to the upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Based on The Tales of Dunk and Egg, the series chronicles the journey of Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen, who form an unlikely alliance as they wander the vast lands of Westeros.

The prequel series is set almost 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and fans could get a history lesson about the events that shaped the Seven Kingdoms. So, if you are a fan of Game of Thrones, there’s a lot to look forward to.
