Fans who attended Zach Top’s show over the weekend got a little bit more than they expected when a giant cricket appeared to crawl around near the country star’s neck during his set list.
The unexpected encounter happened on Friday, Sept. 26, at Hearne Municipal Airport, in Hearne, Texas, near College Station, as part of LIVE At the Station Fest 2025. Top, 28, was in the middle of performing his classic country ballad “I Know a Place” from his 2025 album, Ain’t in it for My Health.
Ironically, Top was singing the lyrics, “It’s time we make a great escape / Turn off the world and get away,” during the unexpected episode, but there was nowhere for him to run off to, as he was center stage, committed to his job of entertaining the massive audience.
A handful of folks who attended the show were able to catch the bug in action on video and uploaded their clips to social media. In one of the videos, concertgoers can be heard gasping out loud and screaming the words “Oh, my God!” as they see the creepy crawler hanging out on the collar of the traditional-leaning singer/songwriter’s dress shirt, invading his personal space.
Top apparently knew he had an insect hitch a free ride to his show as the caption on the clip revealed the crooner noticed the unwelcome guest bugging him toward the end of the song.
“At the station, Zach Top didn’t notice a cricket crawling all over him for a whole song. He saw it eventually and called it his little friend,” the accompanying caption reads.
Fans in the comments section of the post also confirmed that the Sunnyside, Wash. native had an inkling that someone was moving around near his face, but didn’t miss a beat when it came time to acknowledge the little bugger.
One TikTok user pointed out, “He definitely did notice, but he’s not gonna stop a song to freak out…”
Another person confirmed, “He definitely did. He is just a professional.”
A third person wrote, “Only musicians know you don’t stop a song for anything but a fight or something thrown at them.”
A second clip posted on TikTok gives viewers another eyeful of the moment, with the cricket appearing to make its way from Top’s shoulder to an area of his neck.
Zach Top Isn’t the Only Artist To Experience a Cricket Encounter
Top isn’t the only artist who has dealt with a cricket on his neck during his live show. In August, Jennifer Lopez was also seen flicking one of the bugs away from her neck at her concert in Kazakhstan as seen on Instagram.
Top is currently on the road as part of his Cold Beer & Country Music headline tour, performing dates in the US and Canada. In 2026, his tour will head to Europe with special guest Wyatt McCubbin.
