While we’re all pretty devastated that the mad March season is now coming to an end, we’re also super pumped for all the events that are set to hit Adelaide in April.

In fact, April is fast becoming one of the state’s busiest months with its fair share of festivals, music gigs, and sports extravaganzas. Plus, with Easter and ANZAC Day, there’s heaps on, so look out for more articles and guides to come.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 events happening around South Australia this coming April, so you can get ahead and start planning now!

Adelaide International Kite Festival | April 4 – 6

The Adelaide International Kite Festival is set to return with three colourful days of seaside fun, bringing a sky full of kites and plenty of charm to the coast. Taking place along Semaphore Beach and foreshore, the free community event invites families, kite enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike to enjoy the simple joy of kite flying, with hundreds of kites expected to fill the sky.

Running from April 4 to 6 between 11am and 5pm each day, the festival will feature spectacular kite displays, including a giant 30-metre blue whale, alongside amusements, market stalls and visits from the Easter Bunny across the weekend, promising a vibrant celebration for both the young and the young-at-heart.

Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival | April 4 – 6

The Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival reaches a huge milestone this year, celebrating 150 years of racing at one of the state’s most iconic country racecourses. This historic event has long been a highlight on the Hills Easter calendar, attracting thousands of attendees from across the state for a weekend that’s as much about a fun community festival vibe as it is about racing.

Over the years, the Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival has become equally renowned for its relaxed picnic-style setting and welcoming community feel as it has for the quality on-track action. Many racegoers make a full weekend of the iconic carnival, setting up along the famous hillside with picnic rugs, barbecues and eskies while enjoying local food trucks, drinks and entertainment throughout the day.

Gather Round | Aprill 9 – 12

Heading back for its fourth year, the AFL’s Gather Round will showcase South Australia in a four-day festival. The whole state is coming alive with events, pop-up bars, entertainment and more to celebrate the “festival of footy” in our great state.

The Adelaide Oval will serve as the focal point for the event, showcasing all AFL clubs competing in South Australia from April 9th until the 12th.

Gather Sounds Festival | April 10 – 12

This month, there’s a brand-new music festival on the horizon, Gather Sounds, bringing together sports and music fans for an epic two days of musical mastery.

Taking place over two days during the highly anticipated AFL Gather Round, there’s heaps of talent crammed into this festival, which kicks off at 6pm on Friday, April 10th, with the official launch of Bad//Dreems’ fifth studio album, Ultra Dundee. Saturday is when they really turn up the heat on the action, erupting into a two-stage mini-festival from 2pm until the clock strikes midnight, showcasing the band’s original songs and some Aussie cover hits, alongside headliners Beddy Rays and Phil Jamieson.

Electric Island | April 11

Glenelg Beach is set to come alive this April as the Electric Island returns with a massive lineup of international and local talent. For Adelaide fans, the spotlight remains on the city’s own beachside edition taking place on Saturday, April 11th. The event will transform the beach into a day-long dancefloor for thousands of music lovers to gather for one of the most anticipated electronic music events of the season

Norwood Food and Wine Festival | April 12

The Norwood Food and Wine Festival is back on April 12th as part of Gather Round, bringing The Parade to life with live music, entertainment and a foodie festival atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the footy, the festival will have the most delicious produce, local wines and craft beverages, all served up in true South Australian style.

Emma Memma’s Jungle Picnic Tour | April 13

Emma Memma is bringing her Jungle Picnic live show to Norwood Concert Hall this school holidays, with three Adelaide performances packed with music, movement, games and interactive fun for young children and their families. Inspired by her latest album, the show invites kids to sing, dance and join in, with Emma Memma’s signature focus on inclusivity also front and centre through Auslan integrated into the performance.

Adelaide Equestrian Festival | April 16 – 19

The Adelaide Park Lands will transform into a four-day celebration of world-class sport, hospitality and open-air entertainment this April from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th, with the Adelaide Equestrian Festival hosting the prestigious Oceania Championships.

The festival will see Victoria Park transformed into a hub of sport, hospitality and entertainment. Spectators can wander between the Main Arena, food and wine experiences, shopping village and picnic spots, while the action spills out across the Park Lands for Cross Country Day, delivering some of the closest vantage points you’ll find anywhere in the world.

Salt Festival | April 17 – 26

The Southern Eyre Peninsula’s 10-day Salt Festival is back this April, showcasing the best of the region and a host of incredible acts from around Australia. Across the festival, you’ll experience music, art, inspiring talks, hands-on workshops, regional food & drink and networking events.

Lime Green Festival | April 18

Aussie pop-rock favourites, Lime Cordiale, are heading to Adelaide this month, putting a forward-thinking, new music festival on the map.

The brand-new, climate-focused, off-grid Lime Green Festival will hit Point Malcolm Reserve on April 18th, bringing a bunch of musicians you know and love, with big-picture ideas about how festivals can tread lighter on the planet. Lime Cordiale will headline, joined by indie-folk favourites The Dreggs, Adelaide pop star aleksiah, local four-piece PASH, and the triple j Unearthed winner.

2026 Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge | April 23 to 26

This month, South Australia is gearing up to welcome back one of the world’s premier accessible sporting events, with the Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge set to return to Adelaide from the 23rd to the 26th.

Teams from across the world will converge on Adelaide for four days of action broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports, bringing elite athleticism, fierce rivalry and an electric atmosphere to the newly redeveloped State Basketball Centre at Wayville. The tournament will see Australia’s national wheelchair rugby team, the Australian Steelers, take on top-ranked nations in a showcase of speed, strength and tactical brilliance.
