Powell, 36, known for his roles in 2022 action drama “Top Gun: Maverick” and 2023 romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” broke down the weird encounter.

“I was at a party and there was somebody that had basically been on the ropes in terms of sort of getting canceled,” Powell said during the podcast. “It was one of those Hollywood parties where there’s like cameras and press and all that stuff.”

Powell said the actor — whom he did not name — had made some of his favorite movies.

“I was like, ‘Oh, this is great.’ He came up and he said, ‘Nice to meet you.’ I was like, ‘Oh, dude. Such a big fan,’” Powell said. “And then a photographer said, ‘Hey, can we take a picture of you guys.’”

The actor evidently was willing to take a photo with him, but Powell admits he wasn’t so keen.

“I realized very quickly — I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if this is a good idea.’ He clearly clocked that I was like, ‘Oh, this is probably not a good idea,’” said Powell, during the podcast. “And I realized that this guy, his face is toxic. Going out into the world, people are having a visceral reaction to this person in terms of the bad choice they’ve made.”

Powell, who is promoting his upcoming Hulu sports comedy series “Chad Powers,” compared the actor to the lead character he plays in the show named, Russ Holiday.

In the series, Holiday is a disgraced college quarterback who disguises himself as Chad Powers to play for a down-in-out southern football team to revive his football career, according to IMDb.

“Russ Holiday is just a guy who made a mistake, he’s not a bad guy,” said Powell, during the podcast. “Some of these other people who get canceled, they should lie where they’re shot.”

Powell continues, “In today’s day and age, cancel culture is just a thing where the world that doesn’t let you forget your mistakes. With phones, with TikTok, with Instagram, so many people make mistakes and the world doesn’t let you forget. And I found it to be interesting how people react to those moments.”

“Chad Powers” will premiere on Hulu on Tuesday. Powell’s latest film, “The Running Man,” is set to debut in theaters on Nov. 7, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.
