Godzilla Stomps Fair Verona in ROMEO & JULIET AND GODZILLA Exclusive Look

Godzilla is entering 2026 like he’s ready to own all of pop culture. On streaming, he’ll appear on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters this season, while the Toho Godzilla will return to the big screen in Godzilla Minus Zero. And, very soon, the King of the Monsters will tackle William Shakespeare himself. (Well, others will tackle the words of Willy Shakespeare, we think he’ll mostly roar and stomp.) This will take place in Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, written by Adam Tierney and drawn by Sean Peacock. It’s part of Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theater, a new four-issue line of one-shots dropping the Atomic Lizard into iconic works of literature. Honestly, we’re obsessed with the way Godzilla fits right into fair Verona in these first seven pages of the comic. And the artwork is so beautiful, it’s hard to tear ourselves away from it. But whenever you’re ready to stop looking, here’s the official synopsis for Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla to go along with our exclusive look above. It sounds like the most smashingly good time classic literature has ever had:

The explosive literary mashup series returns! But this time, Godzilla is taking on the classics one story at a time. O Godzilla, Godzilla, wherefore art thou Godzilla? First, it’s invading the Bard’s most revered play, Romeo & Juliet. Families at war! Forbidden love blossoming! Godzilla on its path of destruction! Fair Verona won’t be so fair for long!

Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla artist Sean Peacock also had this to say about this rather unusual project:

I’m beyond excited for fans to dig into this story! This book was an absolute blast to draw. The pages with Automatazilla, our steampunk Mechagodzilla, were some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a comic. I think readers will have just as much fun reading this book as we did making it!

Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla reimagines the Bard’s most famous play, only this time, with way more atomic breath. The story will be “blending feuding families, budding romance, and large-scale destruction in Verona.” Each one-shot, including this one, also includes a five-page backup story by Tom Scioli, starting with Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham. Will we get Much Ado about Kaiju one day? We’ve got our fingers crossed.
