Early Life and Education

Grace Chatto was born on December 10, 1985 in London, England. She grew up in Crouch End and later relocated to Shoreditch. Chatto attended the Latymer School, Westminster School, and the Royal Academy of Music before she went to Jesus College, Cambridge, where she studied modern languages.

Clean Bandit

While studying at Jesus College, Cambridge, Chatto was part of a classical string quartet. In 2008, she met fellow student and musician Jack Patterson, who began creating samples using recordings from her string quartet’s concerts. He then recruited his younger brother Luke to join on drums. With Chatto’s friend and colleague Neil Amin-Smith on violin and piano and Ssegawa-Ssekintu Kiwanuka as a vocalist, the group became the electronic music group Clean Bandit.
