Nashville’s sporting scene dominates the biggest events this sunny Labor Day weekend, but of course there are also musical performances in Music City.
With most of Nashville’s major weekend events set outdoors, the weather should be accommodating if not a little warm. The National Weather Service forecasts on Saturday a high of 89 degrees Fahrenheit, 88 degrees Sunday and 86 degrees Monday.
The Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix is by far the biggest event, but here are are some other, equally exciting opportunities for fun this holiday weekend.

- Where: Geodis Park, 501 Benton Ave., Nashville
Nashville’s favorite soccer squad returns to its home at Geodis Park after its most recent home game a week ago to take on Atlanta’s squad. Nashville SC goes back on the road before their next home game Sept. 16.

It’s witches and wizards’ time to shine at the Nashville Sounds baseball game Saturday, which is themed “Harry Potter Night.” “Whether you’re a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin, get your tickets now for this magical night at the ballpark,” the team said on its website. Then, for Sunday’s Family Fun Game, kids will be able to meet some Sounds players beforehand and round the bases afterward.

The Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix returns to Nashville Superspeedway on Aug. 31 (1 p.m., FOX) serving for the second straight year as the NTT IndyCar season finale. There are plenty of storylines in the race, which was run as a street course its first three years in downtown Nashville before moving to the superspeedway. The move from downtown turned the race, which previously featured a stretch over the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge, into an oval. Several premium seat options are no longer available, but some general admission tickets in the grandstands are available. Grandstand tickets start at $70 with ages 12-under costing $10. Nashville’s inaugural women’s collegiate volleyball tournament begins at 11 a.m. at Bridgestone Arena with Nebraska vs. Kentucky, followed by Purdue versus Tennessee at 2 p.m. and Illinois vs. Vanderbilt at 5 p.m. One ticket gets fans access to all three games. “We are extremely excited to showcase some of the most elite volleyball athletes in the country at Bridgestone Arena. With the national growth and interest in collegiate volleyball and women’s sports in general, we are confident we can create a great atmosphere for these matches,” Scott Ramsey, president and CEO of the Nashville Sports Council, said in a news release.

It’s free and fun and lasts all afternoon. The much beloved Musicians Corner in Centennial Park this weekend kicks off Saturday at noon with a performance by Kara Frazier, followed by Lilly Winwood at 1:10 p.m., Billy Allen + The Pollies at 2:15 p.m., then Bre Kennedy at 3:30 p.m., and finally Yola at 4:45 p.m. On Sunday, The Magi open the festivities at noon, followed by Kashena Sampson at 1:10 p.m., Jonathan Plevyak at 2:15 p.m., The Brummies at 3:30 p.m., and Jade Bird at 4:45 p.m. This weekend’s event is the first of five consecutive concert series every week until Sept. 26.
