Greenwich Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to “The Scout,” the directorial debut of Paula González-Nasser who also wrote the script. The film had its world premiere in the U.S. Narrative Competition section at the Tribeca Festival. Greenwich will release the film in theaters across the country later this year.
“The Scout” follows a location scout, played by Mimi Davila, over the course of one day as she connects with a handful of New York City residents while struggling to lock down shooting locations for a TV show. The film also stars Rutanya Alda, Otmara Marrero, Max Rosen, Sarah Herrman, Ikechukwu Ufomadu, and Matt Barats. Critics embraced the film, with the AV Club calling it a “charming, awkward, funny debut.”
Following its world premiere at Tribeca Festival, “The Scout” has gone on to play at several festivals, including Mill Valley Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, and American Film Festival in Poland.
“We are honored to be partnering with Greenwich, whom we have long admired for their dedication to theatrical-forward distribution, on the release of my directorial debut,” said González-Nasser. “I am personally so grateful for Greenwich’s continued support and championing of truly independent cinema, and we’re beyond stoked that audiences will get to experience The Scout in theaters and beyond.”
The Scout was produced by González-Nasser, Ryan Martin Brown, and Matthew Romanski. Executive Producers include Jess Zeidman, Sarah Herrman, Hannah Kettering, and Roger Mancusi. The deal was negotiated by Greenwich’s Jasper Basch with Cinetic’s Zach Magid representing the filmmakers.
Previous Greenwich releases include Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi’s Academy Award-Winning “Free Solo,” “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” from Oscar winners Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, “Coup!” starring Peter Sarsgaard and Billy Magnussen, “Close to You” starring Elliot Page, “The Critic” starring Ian McKellen, “Bonjour Tristesse” starring Lily McInerny, Claes Bang, and Chloë Sevigny, and “Love, Brooklyn” starring André Holland.
