Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George has weighed in on his future on the program.
The actor said he’s sure he’s returning, after Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd exited following season 22.
“Every show that gets on the air gets canceled someday,” he added.
Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George has weighed in on his future on the long-running medical drama amid a shocking cast shakeup following the most recent season 22.
George opened up about potentially returning to the show for season 23, following the show’s May 6 season finale earlier this year.
“I think I can confirm that Ben is coming back,” the 54-year-old said in a new interview with Us. “I’m pretty certain I’m coming back.”
The actor has appeared on the show in differing capacities since 2010, and said that he has faith in the show’s creative team as they push ahead on new installments.

“They’re not afraid to make the hard decisions in terms of story to keep the story as fresh and alive as possible. But they do it with respect,” George added, after news broke amid season 22’s rollout that stars Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd wouldn’t return to the ABC show.
George hasn’t only remained a vital part of the Grey’s Anatomy cast, he’s also helped expand it as part of the Station 19 spin-off ensemble.
“As early as possible — as soon as you’re thinking about it — you’ll get a call and a conversation,” George told the outlet of the pre-season process. “I remember when I got called to do the spinoff for Station 19. I thought it was a call to [say], ‘Sorry, man, we’re writing Ben off the show.'”
George said he’s heard about horror stories from other actors, where productions won’t inform an actor that they’re leaving a project until they finish the table read for their final episode — which he compared to being “completely notably blindsided.”
Looking ahead, George admitted he knows that “every show that gets on the air gets canceled someday,” but “It’s just a matter of if people treat it with respect while you’re going along the path. So that’s what I have, and that’s a good time.”
George also reflected on his time working with Raver and McKidd, calling them “some of the best people I’ve met my entire time in Hollywood” amid their exits.
In a statement, Grey’s creative force, Shonda Rhimes, additionally commented on the season 22 cast shakeup.

“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other,” Rhimes said in a statement about the actors. “It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves. Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance, and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine.”
