Noah Centineo is circling Legendary’s Gundam live-action adaptation
Noah Centineo is in talks to join Legendary’s live-action Gundam movie, potentially reuniting with the studio following his work on the upcoming Street Fighter film.
Centineo would star opposite Sydney Sweeney, who is already attached to lead the sci-fi adaptation helmed by Jim Mickle, if a deal is finalized. Legendary declined to comment on the negotiations. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
The Gundam film is based on the Japanese anime franchise created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, which debuted in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam. The story takes place in the Universal Century, when humanity colonizes space and sparks a war between Earth and the colonies. Pilots fight these battles using mobile suits — giant mechanized robots.
Jim Mickle writes and directs the adaptation. He also produces the film alongside Linda Moran under their Nightshade banner. Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks co-develop the project, which is expected to begin production soon. The title remains undisclosed.
Sources claim that Sydney Sweeney plays the central character and actively participates in casting the male lead. The narrative follows a dynamic similar to Romeo & Juliet, with her character and the male lead on opposite sides of an interplanetary war who form a connection. Legendary was previously in talks with Drew Starkey for the role, but those discussions did not result in a deal.
Centineo’s previous credits include To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Black Adam, Warfare, and The Recruit. He recently shot for Street Fighter, distributed by Paramount and scheduled for release in October 2026. He is also preparing to film a Rambo prequel for Lionsgate and will appear in Gabriel Basso’s directorial debut, Iconoclast.
