Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness brand Goop was reportedly slammed with layoffs as the company turns to A.I. to replace workers.
A source familiar with the matter told Puck that the layoffs stem from “profitability and A.I.” The spokesperson told Puck, “Goop, like many companies, is adapting to a shifting landscape and finding new ways to operate more efficiently.”
Emily Sundberg’s Feed Me Substack also reported that the layoffs stemmed from the company’s pivot to A.I., adding that Paltrow, 53, herself led the meeting announcing the cuts. Recently, it was revealed that Meta was reportedly planning to lay off around 10% of its global workforce as well.
The Puck report added that Paltrow has roped in Moj Mahdara as a consultant to help stabilize Goop. Paltrow and Mahdara launched Kinship Ventures, a venture capital firm, together.
This isn’t the first time Goop has laid off its staff. In late 2024, the wellness company had two waves of massive layoffs in two months, slashing around 50 employees.
The Oscar-winning actress is the CEO of Goop, and started the company as a weekly email newsletter in September 2008. She later expanded it into an e-commerce business that collaborates with fashion brands and hosts pop-ups and wellness summits.
Goop later launched a print magazine, podcast, and even a docuseries on Netflix. Paltrow stated that the 2024 layoffs put the company “back in growth mode,” but it’s unclear exactly how solvent the company is now.
Gwyneth Paltrow brutally trolled for Goop’s layoffs
The news of Goop’s layoffs did not go down well on the internet, as fans accused the actress of being “greedy.”
A user commented on TMZ’s story of the news, “She means, why pay real people to work when AI can do it for free while I reap the profits. Greedy.”
Another added, “AI is the answer to lay off worthless actors like her.”
A third person commented: “Who buy her s— anyway??”
In a Reddit thread about “Goop’s empire crumbling” posted a year ago, fans echoed similar concerns, complaining that Goop’s products are “overpriced.”
A Redditor wrote, “Surprised it lasted that long honestly. Overpriced products for boring, beige soccer moms. Has she tried to come up with her own overpriced and oversized goop tumbler?”
Another chimed in: “I don’t feel bad for her at all tbh, I don’t hate her either though. She’s an obnoxious out of touch rich person but at least she admits it.”
