Gwyneth Paltrow’s Daughter Apple, 21, Gets Candid About Her Abnormal Childhood

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin may have famously contributed to the internet zeitgeist when they “consciously uncoupled” in 2014, but the stars have remained amicable co-parents to their two children: daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19.

Though the kids may be adults now, Apple and Moses’ childhoods were shaped by their parents’ fame: Martin as the lead singer of Coldplay, and Paltrow as an Oscar-winning actress. (Paltrow’s mother, Blythe Danner, is also a famous actress.)

“I constantly remind myself how grateful I am to have these opportunities,” Apple recently told The Telegraph, referring to her modeling career as well as her job as a student at Nashville’s prestigious Vanderbilt University, where she studies law, history and more.

“I know this is not a normal way to grow up by any means,” she emphasized.

But for someone who grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth — as did Paltrow — Apple made sure to express just how much her parents valued hard work.

“My parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn’t be entitled to anything,” she shared. “I have to work.” In her teenage years, her jobs were in fashion: When Apple was 15, she worked in a clothing store.

“She’s making her way in the world,” a proud Martin told Ellen DeGeneres at the time of her first job. Four years later, when she was 19, she interned at Interview magazine.

Though her life may look glamorous — Apple made headlines in 2024 when she made her debut into society at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris — she manages to stay as down-to-earth as possible when she’s in college.

“Hanging out with my friends and trying to have a normal college experience makes me feel more normal,” she explained. “That’s how I like to unwind.”

That being said, it’s clear that she is her parents’ daughter. “We’ll sit down and do little guitar playing sessions, one person will play and the others will sing,” she said of how she and her college friends hang out. “I also love watching reality TV with my friends. There was one day we spent five hours on the couch and just watched old episodes of America’s Next Top Model.”
