Halle Berry spent her birthday trolling ex-husband David Justice’s recent comments about why their relationship didn’t work out.
“Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering,” the actress, 59, wrote via Instagram alongside a series of snaps while celebrating her birthday in a tropical destination on Thursday, August 14.
The first photo of the slideshow featured Berry smiling brightly as she posed in front of the ocean. Berry rocked a yellow bikini plus a blue and white bandana. An additional pic showed off Berry and boyfriend Van Hunt relaxing in a cabana and snacking on some chips. Berry also included multiple shots of her taking in the tropical paradise, including one of her holding a glass of wine between her toes as she lay out to overlook the ocean.
Berry also gave a glimpse of her birthday celebration, including a slice of chocolate cake with a candle on it. She also received a card seemingly from her kids, Nahla, 17, and Maceo, 11, as it was addressed to “Mom” on the envelope. (The Oscar winner shares Nahla with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.)
Berry’s caption was a subtle dig at Justice’s remarks earlier this month about his reasoning for why he and the actress separated in 1996.
“I was young and I had only, honestly, been in one relationship before her. My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast,” the former baseball player, 59, said while appearing on the “All the Smoke” podcast in August. “So, I’m looking at my mom and I’m a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean.”

Justice continued: “Then I’m thinking, ‘OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?’ At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues. I’ll say this, we never had any issues about any women, other men.”
Berry and Justice tied the knot on New Year’s Day in 1993 after meeting the previous year. The pair split in 1996 and finalized their divorce the following year. In 2001, Berry moved on with Eric Benét, whom she was married to from 2001 to 2005.
Following her split from Benét, she moved on with Aubry from 2005 to 2010. Berry was later linked to Martinez from 2013 to 2016. The Catwoman actress has been in a relationship with Hunt since 2020.
