Hallmark is facing criticism ahead of the May 9 release of its new movie, All’s Fair in Love and Mahjong.

Earlier this week, a promotional photo for the film about the traditional Chinese tile game mahjong was posted on Hallmark’s Instagram account, and fans quickly took to the comments section after noticing there were no Asian actors in the photo.

“Where are the Asian actors/actresses for a title centered around Mahjong?” one person asked.

“A movie about mahjong… and zero Asian people,” a second chimed in.

“uhhh… that’s not… just do monopoly next time or something 😭,” a third wrote.

“Uhhhhh read the room yikes,” a fourth penned.

According to the Hallmark website, the film stars Fiona Gubelmann, Paul Campbell, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Melissa Peterman — and one Asian actress, Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe, who was tagged but not pictured in the Instagram post.

“A school nurse finds unexpected hope through teaching Mahjong, the centuries‑old Chinese game that helps her build community and open her heart again,” a synopsis on the Hallmark website reads.

A Hallmark spokesperson also gave a statement to Entertainment Weekly about the movie, noting: “All’s Fair in Love & Mahjong is a love story with connection at its core, highlighting family, friendship, and motherhood with warmth and humor. The movie honors the heritage of mahjong by recognizing the game’s Chinese origin and its unique ability to connect cultures, generations, and communities.”
