Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly at odds as their son’s seventh birthday rapidly approaches. The couple welcomed Prince Archie on May 6, 2019, just one year after exchanging vows in Windsor.
Reports suggest that Meghan is eager to follow the Royal Family’s tradition of marking birthdays by posting a photo of Archie on Instagram, while Harry reportedly wishes to continue shielding their two children, including four-year-old Princess Lilibet, from public attention.
Regarding Harry and Meghan’s disagreement, an insider told New Idea, “This isn’t the first time this conflict has come up – and there are times it’s been Meghan holding Harry back from showing off pictures of their kids.
“But Meghan thinks it’s the perfect time to release a formal set of pictures of Archie for his birthday – especially now her Archie candle’s been released,” reports the Daily Express.
On the subject of Harry’s reservations about Meghan’s proposal, the source added, “However, Harry’s starting to worry about Archie and Lilibet losing their titles if they keep pushing the lines between being royalty and monetizing it.”
The insider also highlighted the tension between Harry’s fraught history with the press and his determination to safeguard Archie and Lilibet from similar scrutiny. The source continued, “He’s also fearful of trolls and putting a target mark on their young son’s back.
“He’s got enough to deal with – plastering his picture to the world online is going to change his life and not necessarily in a good way.”
Like her brother, Lilibet will mark her fifth birthday just weeks later, on June 4.
The Sussexes have cited privacy concerns as a major reason behind the move, which is especially important to Harry given that his mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident in 1997 after being pursued by paparazzi in Paris.
The former royal made headlines as his estranged father, King Charles III, visited the United States for the first time since he was crowned in 2023.
