Harry and Meghan’s Middle East visit drew attention this week after it emerged the couple had no official meeting planned with Jordan’s royal family despite the close ties between King Abdullah II and the British monarchy
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared to have been ‘snubbed’ by Jordan’s royal family during their visit to the Middle East. Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on Tuesday evening, making the trip at the invitation of World Health Organization’s (WHO) director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Soon after touching down, the couple began a series of engagements reminiscent of a traditional royal tour, visiting charities and community groups. Their two-day visit focused on understanding the humanitarian initiatives supporting displaced Syrians and Palestinians who have sought refuge in Jordan.
However, despite the couple travelling over 7,500 miles from California to the Middle East, Harry and Meghan were not believed to have held any meetings with Jordan’s monarchs.

The king of Jordan, Abdullah II, maintains close ties with the British Royal Family, particularly with King Charles. The Jordanian ruler was photographed alongside Charles during an official visit to London in 2025, the Mirror reports.
Abdullah II and his wife, Queen Rania, were also among the distinguished guests at King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023. Queen Rania has also met Queen Camilla on a number of occasions, with the pair discussing initiatives focused on women’s issues.
According to the Daily Mail, a source claimed that Jordan’s King and Queen did not meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their visit to the Middle Eastern nation.
The source reportedly said: “There is no meeting scheduled between the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex] and the Jordanian Royal Family.”
The only member of the Jordan royals said to have met the Duke and Duchess was Princess Basma bint Talal, an aunt of Abdullah II, along with her daughter Farah Daghistani. The brief meeting reportedly took place on Thursday (February 26) at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting disadvantaged communities across the country.
Instead, Abdullah II spent his time this week hosting the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Amman on Wednesday.
During their trip Harry and Meghan also visited the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts, where they met with patients and heard about the support services offered at the facility.
Prince Harry encouraged a group of former addicts to return to their communities and support others facing similar struggles, telling them: “There’s no shame in having an addiction.”
The California-based couple were seen listening as a group of men opened up about the emotional impact of substance abuse and the care they had received at the centre.
After learning more about its holistic methods – including activities such as gym sessions and yoga classes – they described the approach as “incredible”.
The Duke of Sussex said: “I want you guys to know there’s no shame in having an addiction, it stems from something else which is an emotional pain – you’re very, very brave to come here into hospital.
“Now what you need to do is use this experience and go back into your communities and help other people who are in a similar situation.”
The couple also visited the headquarters of the World Central Kitchen – which co-ordinates and deploys a million hot meals across Gaza every day.
