It’s been three years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stood alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton, and relations between the couples have never been more strained, according to a royal expert.
The formerly tight-knit group were last seen together during a walkabout at Windsor Castle, appearing remarkably somber as they viewed the floral tributes for Queen Elizabeth following her death on September 8, 2022.
The joint public appearance was hailed as an “olive branch” extended by William to Harry, who had already left the UK and abandoned his duties as a working royal two years earlier.
However, given the series of betrayals and shocking revelations that have emerged over the past three years, the rift between them has reached unprecedented depths, expert Duncan Larcombe revealed.
“There’s no doubt the feud between them is worse than ever, so much has happened and there has been so much betrayal and fury,” he told OK! “The longer they don’t speak, the deeper the feud will get.”
He added, “Their Oprah Winfrey interview was the first big blow, so to speak, because it showed that Harry and Meghan were prepared to speak about the royals, particularly Charles and William, in a way one would never expect from another family member.”
Larcombe continued, “Then Harry’s book, Spare, was incredibly damaging and made William furious because of the betrayal of family secrets.
“So now Harry and Meghan have carved out their own existence in California, but they’re doing it for cash and to the highest bidder. Meanwhile, all that time in those same three years, William and Kate have been busy with duty, and haven’t cashed in on their status.”
The Windsor walkabout saw William and Harry walk side by side with their wives, all wearing black or navy, before breaking off and engaging separately with the crowd.

They came together again for the funeral, with the brothers trailing behind the late Queen’s coffin alongside their father, while Meghan and Kate took separate cars to the church and didn’t seem to speak before, during, or after the service.
All attention returns to Meghan this week with the launch of Season 2 of her Netflix program, With Love, Meghan, which premieres on 26 August.
Items from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, are anticipated to appear prominently as the streaming platform is already promoting her collection alongside a series of How To tutorials from Season 1.
In the meantime, the anniversary of the Queen’s death will be a “touching moment for the entire family,” Larcombe noted and the royals will undoubtedly commemorate it “in their own way.”
