Prince Harry is set to reunite with his father, King Charles, for the first time in 20 months when he travels back to Britain in two weeks – though Prince William has shut down any hopes of reconciling with his estranged brother.
The Duke of Sussex and the monarch’s ties are warming following behind-the-scenes peace talks with Buckingham Palace officials.
Harry is anticipated in London on September 8 – marking the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing – to participate in the WellChild Awards, a charitable cause he has championed for years.
The timing represents the Duke’s initial return since his unsuccessful legal challenge against the reduction of his security arrangements in the UK.
Simultaneously, the King remains in the UK without any scheduled overseas trips until late September, creating an opportunity for the father and son to reconnect face-to-face for the first time since February 2024.

Charles has not laid eyes on his grandchildren since June 2022, when the Sussexes made their return for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities.
Last month, Harry’s chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, encountered the King’s press secretary Tobyn Andreae for talks at the Royal Overseas League in London.
Liam Maguire, who manages the Sussexes’ UK press, also participated in the gathering, which was viewed as a significant move toward establishing communication.
The conversations encompassed the prospect of Harry obtaining direct briefings on his father’s condition and coordination to prevent conflicts between Sussex initiatives and Royal duties. In May, the Duke spoke openly about his distress during a BBC interview, revealing he was “devastated” following his failed legal battle to maintain police protection during UK visits.

Despite that public plea, there has been minimal personal communication. The Duchess of Sussex and their children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, chose to remain in the States following the prince’s earlier statement that he “can’t see a world” in which he could bring his children to Britain without adequate security measures.
Although the King has shown openness to reconciliation, the relationship between Harry and the Prince of Wales continues to be severely damaged.
