Hayley Williams has launched her new band Power Snatch with the surprise release of “EP1” via Bandcamp and Untitled.
The Paramore frontwoman unveiled the project last week while hosting a show on Apple Music alongside her Power Snatch band member Daniel James, who previously worked as a producer on her third solo album “Ego Death at the Bachelorette Party.” The duo quietly uploaded Power Snatch’s first single “DMs” on Bandcamp in December, and teased the new single “Assignment” on Apple Music. “EP1” features “DMs,” “Duh” and “Hole in the Ceiling.”
Power Snatch released “EP1” on the heels of last night’s Grammy Awards, where “Ego Death” was nominated in four categories including best alternative music album and best rock song for “Glum.” After losing in her respective categories, Williams’ official Instagram HQ account posted a photo with the caption, “We’d like to thank the academy. (And it’s an honor to lose to The Cure anytime 💛).”
Much like with Power Snatch, Williams put out “Ego Death” in an unconventional way, surprise-releasing 17 songs on her website last July and taking them down a little more than 24 hours later. She had given fans an access code as part of a new drop from her Good Dye Young hair dye company.
Following the songs’ removal, Williams officially released the album on digital as standalone tracks, encouraging fans to sequence the project as they best saw fit. She later released “Ego Death” with 18 tracks (including the new addition “Parachute”) and tacked on two more songs as part of a physical album release. “Ego Death,” which also featured contributions from Jim-E Stack and James Harmon, became her highest-charting solo album to date, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard 200.
