It was the proposal heard around the world when Travis Kelce got down on one knee to ask Taylor Swift to marry him — and according to her, she wasn’t exactly surprised.
The Grammy winner, 35, is currently promoting her new album The Life of a Showgirl and got candid on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where she discussed her engagement.
Swift revealed to host Jimmy Fallon that she had a feeling the proposal was coming, because Kelce, 36, seemed anxious beforehand.
The Kansas City Chiefs player had been filming an episode of his podcast, “New Heights,” with his brother Jason — featuring Swift as a guest — before he proposed.
“I think, for Travis, the podcast was just sort of a distraction, sort of a ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,” Swift recalled to Fallon, 51. “Every time he does the podcast, it’s not like he blacks out all the windows.”
However, that day, there were “fully blackout drapes on every single window of the whole house.”
The “Shake It Off” crooner started to pick up on Kelce’s nervous energy and initially thought he was “really serious about” the podcast.
“I kinda realized that he’s walking around sorta nervous about the podcast, [saying], ‘My heart is racing. … I know how much this means to you,” she said. “I just really want this to be what you’d hoped it would be.”
“Because we’d been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album. And he’s like, ‘My heart’s just racing.’ I’ve never seen this dude nervous. Ever,” Swift explained to the late night show host. “He’s professionally not a nervous person.”
Once shooting for the episode concluded, Kelce asked the pop star if she wanted to take a stroll in the backyard and drink wine.
“I’m always gonna wanna do that,” she quipped, adding that she began to register that the joyful moment was about to happen.
Swift called the experience “the best-possible-case scenario.”
The couple thrilled fans when they became engaged on August 26 after two years of dating, with their engagement shoot scoring over 37 million likes on social media.
