Despite rumors of conflict and a possible exit for Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren swears that she’d return to work on MobLand with him “in a f‑‑‑ing heartbeat.”
For the last few weeks, there has been plenty of back-and-forth about whether Hardy has actually been fired from the Paramount+ crime series, with the last update declaring that “things are being worked through creatively” for him to stay on board. Reports have suggested that Hardy’s alleged tardiness was “frustrating” for Mirren, but the Oscar winner is insisting that there is no bad blood.
“I love Tom, I think he’s the most amazing actor,” she told Variety. “Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”

When first reporting that Hardy was fired, Puck said that he was often late to set, attempted to change the show’s dialogue, clashed with producers, and wasn’t happy that MobLand was becoming more of an ensemble show.
Produced by Guy Ritchie, MobLand stars Hardy as Harry Da Souza, the loyal fixer for the Harrigan crime family, which is led by powerful patriarch Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and his conniving wife, Maeve (Mirren). The cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Janet McTeer, and Toby Jones.
Hardy’s purported firing hasn’t sat well with the MobLand mob. Fans have passionately defended Hardy on social media, and even declared that the series might as well end if Hardy isn’t involved, considering how his simmering performance was the standout element of season 1.
Production has already been completed on season 2, and the debate over whether Hardy will end up returning is partly dependent on whether the series is picked up for a third season. But Mirren hopes they keep going, and believes that the best is yet to come for MobLand.
“When you have powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is challenging,” she said. “People will get their knickers in a twist as we say. We will go forward, absolutely, and it will be even better.”
