Meghan Markle is stepping back in front of the camera with a supporting role in the upcoming ensemble film Close Personal Friends, her first acting project since leaving Hollywood in 2017.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has joined the cast alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson, and Jack Quaid.
Directed by Jason Orley and written by This Is Us creator Isaac Aptaker, the film is currently in production in Pasadena. This follows her Hollywood return being branded as “desperate.”
Markle is reportedly portraying a version of herself.
A source told People that Markle had been on set recently and appeared to be enjoying herself.
She left acting in 2017 ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.
The couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California.
In past interviews, Markle has spoken about her struggles early in her acting career.
“A lot to chip away at your self-esteem,” she said.
She acknowledged in a podcast interview that she sometimes missed acting. In a 2015 blog post, she described the impact Suits had on her life.
“I remember that day like it was yesterday. My cheeks still hurt from how hard I smiled,” she wrote.
