The first look at Tom Cruise‘s transformation in Digger has finally been unveiled — but you can’t see it online.

The first clear footage of the Jerry Maguire actor as eccentric billionaire Digger Rockwell is now playing in theaters.

The footage from the upcoming comedy film comes as part of an extended montage paying tribute to Cruise’s illustrious career attached to the theatrical rereleases of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, which are now playing in cinemas.

The Digger clip begins with Digger walking into a glass-roofed building full of angry-looking people shouting at him.

“When all else fails, you hit ’em with the truth. Hit ’em with the hard truth,” he says in a wide shot that gives a glimpse of his wrinkly makeup and white hairpiece.

The clip also shows footage of several aircraft flying over the ocean, Cruise’s character standing in a different room with flames just outside the window, and a very quick shot of Digger showing off his balding white hair while doing the splits and wearing cowboy boots.

Warner Bros. previously released a brief teaser of the film that showed Cruise’s character in silhouette, but that footage completely obscured Digger’s face and most of his defining features.

Directed by The Revenant filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, Digger marks Cruise’s first non-franchise movie since 2017’s American Made. The movie also stars John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Cruise and Iñárritu appeared at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April to promote the film.

“This kind of movie is why I wanted to make movies…I have to say, it took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell,” Cruise said during WB’s presentation at the event, where he also shared his enthusiasm for Iñárritu’s creativity. “His voice in cinema is extraordinary, and I’m so honored to work with you and inspired by what you create, my friend.”

Iñárritu compared Digger to Cruise’s other performances during the presentation. “We know that he is fearless, the stunts, the planes, the jumps, but I have to say, embodying this character, I think this is another kind of fearless,” the filmmaker said.

Iñárritu previously teased the film in an interview with Deadline in 2025. “This is a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions,” he said at the time. “It’s insane. [Cruise] makes me laugh every day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so f—ing impressed and happy.”

He continued, “He gives himself. He has an incredible sense of passion. It’s a brutal comedy. It’s a wild comedy of human nature. It’s scary and funny. It’s beautiful.”

Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick are now playing in theaters.
