Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot

Originally appeared on E! Online

Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t say she’d never slay another vampire.

The actress was back at it again Aug. 7, reprising her role as the iconic Buffy Summers in the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot for Hulu.

As seen in photos taken from the series’ Los Angeles set, Sarah wore a long-sleeved red mini dress, which she paired with red stilettos. The 48-year-old was carrying a coffee as her signature blonde hair flowed around her.

The photo offers the first time fans have seen Sarah back in character as Buffy since the original show ended its seven season run in 2003. And despite countless rumors of reboots over the years, Sarah—who shares kids Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr.—didn’t feel ready to officially return to the character until Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao came on board.

“For so many years, I said no to a possible return of the series,” she shared with Vanity Fair in June. “I didn’t want to reintroduce something we had already seen. I waited for the right time to come. Then Chloé, a big Buffy fan, proposed the project to me, and I accepted.”

The Cruel Intentions actress revealed that they spent three years getting the project ready, adding that the reboot would “be lighter than the last few seasons of the original.”

“We will try to find a balance between new and old characters,” Sarah continued. “My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”

According to Sarah, she and Chloé are also working to “modernize the themes of the series,” which will see them focus on “what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media.”

While Sarah hasn’t confirmed which other original Buffy stars might make an appearance on the new version, she recently announced that Ryan Kiera Armstrong has joined the cast of the reboot.

“How do you feel about helping me save the world?” Sarah asked the 15-year-old in a video posted to Instagram in May. ”Do you want to be my chosen one? Will you stand by my side and save the world?”

She added in the caption, “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side.”

And Ryan could hardly contain her excitement, saying through tears, “I’m so honored, thank you for trusting me.”

As we wait to find out when the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot will hit the small screen, read on for fun facts about the original series.
