The rumor mill is spinning. If insiders are to be believed, Hilaria Baldwin’s participation in the latest season of Dancing with the Stars is just a cash grab. Allegedly, it is the latest in a series of money-making moves attempted by Alec Baldwin’s family amid mounting financial trouble.
The full cast was recently announced for DWTS Season 34, and many of the show’s fans were surprised to see Alec’s wife among them. Her partner is dance pro Gleb Savchenko, who is coming in for a redemption arc this season. He is hoping to avoid the drama.
Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are supposedly facing financial struggles
Unfortunately, being a celebrity comes with its own drama. So while Gleb may want to focus on the dancing, some folks are already focusing on Hilaria and her husband and talking about why she agreed to be on the show.
According to RadarOnline, Alec and his model wife have been “desperate” for money since his unfortunate on-set accident. In 2021, on the set of his film Rust, Alec accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The actor beat the involuntary manslaughter charges last year when the prosecution failed to disclose evidence to the defense. Still, Alec’s reputation took quite the hit. And he reportedly forked over millions of dollars in his defense. Reports say his lawyer charged upwards of $2,000 per hour.
Insiders claim Hilaria joined DWTS as just another deal she and Alec have had to make to pay their bills.
The couple also agreed to put their lives on display with their own reality show, The Baldwins, back in February. Allegedly Alec asked for a minimum $300,000 to appear on the show, and that was separate from what he asked for his wife and kids. Critics mainly panned the show as a tasteless, tone-deaf cash grab.
One Hollywood insider claimed, “It must be so humiliating for him (Alec). He considers himself Hollywood royalty, and now he’s been forced to sell himself like a novelty item.”
It looks like Hilaria may just be waltzing for the money this season. But whether that’s true or not, perhaps Gleb can give them a real go if he focuses on creating and dancing. Perhaps if she can really commit, it will feel like a real try and not just an odd job for money.
Dancing with the Stars Season 34 will premiere on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
