A 2000s pop princess is planning her return — to both music, and the screen.

On Tuesday, September 9, Hilary Duff announced that she will release new music. Her upcoming projects come by way of a newly-signed deal with Atlantic Records. Details about a new EP or album are being kept under wraps, however, Duff shared some photos from a recording studio on Instagram. In one picture, Duff’s husband singer-songwriter Matthew Koma appears to be contributing to the production of some of her music,

Fans will get more details about Duff’s new music era in an upcoming docuseries directed by Sam Wrench — who previously directed the concert film for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Sabrina Carpenter’s holiday variety show A Nonsense Christmas.

According to a press release, the docuseries will highlight Duff as she endures “the ups, downs and everything in between,” that comes with making a grand comeback. Additionally, “fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.”

Duff last released original music in 2015 with her studio album Breathe In, Breathe Out. Breathe In, Breathe Out spawned hits like “Sparks” and “Chasing the Sun.” A release date for Duff’s next album or a single, and a premiere date for the docuseries, have not yet been announced.

Since she last put out an album, Duff has shifted her focus to acting, with roles on shows like Younger and How I Met Your Father. A reboot of her 2001 breakthrough comedy series Lizzie McGuire was slated for a Disney+ premiere in 2020, but was later shelved during the production process.

Duff released her first album Metamorphosis in 2003, which contained several hits — including “So Yesterday,” “Come Clean,” and “Why Not.”
